There are some basics plumbing tips that everyone should know about. Whether we want to do it ourselves or call a plumber, we should have a basic understanding of our home’s plumbing system. Unlike a car that has a dashboard that tells us when something is wrong, our home will show signs when something goes wrong. Knowing those signs will go a long way. For example, did you know that if you have a dark green patch of grass on your lawn, chances are you have a cracked sewer line or a leak in your irrigation?

Did You Know Your Recommended Water Pressure Is 52 To 75 PSI

Did you know If your whole house suddenly has low water pressure, chances are there is construction in your area, especially if your neighbors are experiencing the same low pressure? If the problem is only happening to you, then you probably have a faulty water pressure regulator. Your water pressure regulator reduces the water pressure that comes from the street to your home. It will lessen the water pressure so that the high water pressure is a safe, regulated flow. The recommended water pressure is 52 to 75 pounds per square inch. If the valve is faulty, your water pressure will tend to drop.

Did You Know Our Toilets Used 5-7 Gallons A Flush Before 1982?

Did you know that everyone should have a toilet that uses less than1.6 gallons a flush? Did you know that toilets built before 1982 used 5-7 gallons of water per flush? From 1990 to 1992, they used 3.5 gallons of water per flush. In 1992 U.S. President George H. W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act making it a mandatory federal maximum for new toilets to use 1.6 gallons per flush.  If you have a toilet that’s older than 25 years, it’s time to replace it.

Did You Know You Can Easily Unjam Your Garbage Disposal?

Did you know that if your garbage disposal gets jammed there is an easy way to unjam it?  There are two tools on the market. A Jam-Buster Wrench that you could purchase for $7.98 on Amazon or Home Depot. The Jam-Buster fits in the slot underneath your disposal. Once in the slot, move the tool back and forth to free what’s causing the jam. When the garbage disposal is moving freely, try clearing the disposal using kitchen tongs and a flashlight. If the Jam-Buster doesn’t do the trick, you can purchase a Garbage Disposal Wrench for less than $15. The wrench goes directly down your drain. Once in the drain, move the wrench back and forth using some muscle until the jam is released. More Plumbing tips to come.
