Well, we’re almost halfway through the year, and for some of us, the resolutions we made have long been forgotten. But for others, we’re still on track. Maybe we set a goal for recycling more or retrofitting our home with new energy-saving products. For many, it’s become a deep conviction to do our fair share to preserve our environment for the next generation. You don’t have to wait any longer. As the saying goes, “Just do it.” Please don’t put it off any longer and push your plans in motion. Installing new low-flow fixtures is an excellent place to start and you don’t have to break the bank to do it.

Low-Flow Fixtures Means Savings Without Sacrifice

Technology has crept into every area of our lives, including low-flow fixtures, and toilets. Did you know that our bathrooms are the smallest room in our homes but account for half the water usage? We know that turning off the water faucet when shaving or brushing our teeth can save enormous amounts of water (3000 gallons of water over a year). But did you know that turning on our faucets can save on water also? When you install a faucet with the WaterSense label, it can provide significant savings without sacrificing high performance. They will help reduce water usage while keeping your hard-earned dollars in your pocket, where it belongs. Traditional faucets use 2.2 gallons of water per minute while the WaterSense labeled fixtures use 1.5, that’s a 30% saving.

We Need To Do Our Part

If we work together by retrofitting our bathrooms with new low-flow fixtures, we can save billions of gallons of water a year. In the past, low-flow fixtures brought us out of our comfort zone. Showerheads seem more like a mist rather than a full spray. That’s not the case any longer. We’ve even seen advancements in accessories such as aerators. Wait, what’s an aerator? It’s the small attachment that connects to the end of your faucet. You don’t need to wait until the end of the year to upgrade your bathroom to low-flow faucets. In fact, “low-flow” sounds a little misleading because you won’t recognize the difference.

Review:

  • Purchase products with the WaterSense label.
  • You’ll save 30% on water compared to a traditional faucet.
  • You won’t give up comfort with low-flow faucets.
  • Turn off the water when brushing your teeth or shaving.
  • You won’t break the bank by installing low-flow faucets.

Use WaterSense Labeled Faucets And Fixtures

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report, depending on your water consumption patterns and the number of family members, you may save up to $170 per year or more on water expenditures by switching to low flow. In addition, while upgrading to more efficient fixtures and faucets, they can rapidly pay for themselves. Realistically the primary incentive is to save water without giving up performance. While 71% of the globe gets covered by water, only 3% is fresh water (not salt water), and just 0.5 percent is drinkable. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, it is incumbent on every one of us to do our part to curb excessive water usage. By replacing older faucets and fixtures with those that have the WaterSense label, you can save money in the following ways:

  • Cutting back on your shower times could save up to four gallons of water or more, depending on the shower’s length. This equates to an annual savings of around 1,460 gallons per family member. Simply by switching to low-flow faucets, you may save 700 gallons of water each year. By replacing a regular toilet with a low-flow type, you may save up to 13,000 gallons of water each year.
