There are lots of ways to save water at home. No one ever thinks of how to save money by saving water. If you live in California, water conservation is the talk of the town. California has seen 20 million in growth since 1970, almost eclipsing 40 million in population. If that’s not enough, of nearly 100 million acres in California, agriculture uses 43 million. 27 million are for crops and 16 million acres for grazing, and it all needs water. You can understand the need for consumers to use water wisely. The following five fixtures make water conservation easy without making you feel like you are making a sacrifice:

Five Water-Saving Plumbing Fixtures You Need in Your Home:

Low-Flow Toilets Are Five Times More Effective At Saving Water

Your old toilet flushes away up to 28 gallons of water per person every day! That is more than a quarter of each person’s water usage. Low-flow toilets are up to five times more effective at saving water but work as well as standard toilets. You can purchase a dual flush toilet that uses 1.1 gallons a flush for liquid waste and 1.28 gallons a flush for solid waste. A new low-flow toilet doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, some are under $200. If you don’t have the budget to replace the toilets in your home, look into installing inexpensive conversion kits.

Low Flow Showerheads Can Cut Water Usage Up To 75%

You don’t have to take a three-minute shower to conserve water. A nice hot shower is part of our quality of life. We can have both a good quality hot shower while being responsible for our water usage. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), showers account for 17 percent of residential water usage. Old showerheads uses as much as eight gallons of water each minute, but a low-flow showerhead can cut water usage up to 75 percent. Because water and energy-saving are significant, the federal, state, and local governments have regulated the gallons per minute (GPM) for showerheads to 2.5 GPM. A ten-minute shower would only use 25 gallons of water. Installing a low-flow showerhead in your bathroom will not only cut your water bill but will also reduce the amount of electricity you use to heat your shower.

Motion Sensor Faucet Will Conserve Water

Reduce the amount of water you use when washing your hands, shaving, or brushing your teeth by using a hand motion to turn the water on and off. Surprisingly, you can now measure water using a voice command and a hand motion for easy on and off for your kitchen faucet. Motion sensors can not only conserve water, they can also lower the possibility of your family sharing germs by eliminating the need to turn on and off faucets manually.

An Aerator Is Excellent For Saving Water

You can use less water without any noticeable water pressure loss. Does that sound impossible? It’s not that impossible when you use a faucet aerator. A faucet aerator attaches to your sink’s faucet and forces the water through tiny holes. An aerator introduces air into the water, which lowers the amount of water necessary to maintain good water pressure.

Energy Efficient Appliances Are Great At Saving Water

If you are in the market for a new appliance, do your best to ensure energy efficiency. Look for appliances that have ENERGY STAR® ratings, then compare their energy-efficiency to comparable appliances. You can trim your utility bill by $35 a year by installing an EnergyStar® certified dishwasher. Additionally, you can save as much as 3870 gallons of water over the life of your dishwasher. Washing machines and dishwashers are the two household appliances that use the most water in any home. Choose the most efficient models to lower your future water usage by up to 50 percent.
