How Covid-19 Is Impacting Our Plumbing Company

I think it’s safe to say that the COVID-19 pandemic is something we have never experienced in our lifetime. It has impacted all areas of the economy, and that includes the plumbing industry. Plumbing may be one industry that is growing. More people at home means the plumbing system is working overtime. With that said, there are some barriers to overcome with the customers. Amid the pandemic, people are told to isolate and work out of their homes, so they tend to put off their plumbing issue for another day, fear of being exposed.

We’ve Taken Great Measures To Ensure Public Safety

Most plumbing companies have gone to great measures to assure public safety. Putting off a plumbing problem for another day may cause the problem to escalate. For example, if you have slow-moving drains throughout your home, there’s a good chance your sewer main needs clearing. Putting it off could expose a family to raw sewage backing up. At Big B’s Plumbing, we take the following precautions to ensure safety.

  • We’ve asked all our employees to stay home and consult their family physician if they are not feeling well.
  • Employees have been instructed to wash their hands often with soap and water.
  • Plumbers are required to use hand sanitizer before entering a home. Every desk in our call center has hand sanitizer on it for our dispatcher’s safety.
  • Our plumbing technicians will refrain from shaking hands with the customers.
  • New shoe covers, masks, protective gloves, and masks are required before ever entering a home.
  • We train our plumbing technicians to keep a safe distance from anyone in the home.
  • Personal protection equipment used when warranted.
  • We use disinfectant wipes on all work truck door handles, steering wheel tools, and any surfaces touched inside the home.
  • We verbally screen our customers upon scheduling and dispatching.

Plumbing Companies Are Hard-Wired To Deal With These Plumbing Issues

In most cases, plumbing is still an essential service during COVID-19. If your home is experiencing a broken water heater, flooded laundry room, clogged drain, or a backed-up sewer line, you can call your Big B’s Plumbing contractor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Unlike landscaping, house painting, or a pool installation company, plumbing is essential during the pandemic. Most would agree that a bathroom remodel could wait for another day, but a broken pipe cannot.

The Plumbing System Is Facing Challenges

During this time, our plumbing system is facing some challenges like never before. The average person flushes 5 to 6 times a day. If a parent and two kids are home from school, that’s 18 flushes before anyone else arrives at your home. We’re telling customers to keep from taxing their plumbing system. They should watch what they put down their drains and toilet whenever possible. Never flush any hygiene products, paper towels, or wipes of any kind. For your kitchen, consider composting or even using your disposal sparingly. If you live in an older apartment complex with hundreds of tenants at home, your plumbing may be more prone to fail.

A Bidet Is Good For Business And The Environment

Another way COVID-19 has positively impacted our business is the increase in bidet sales and installations. We all remember when COVID-19 hit, and there was a huge run for toilet paper. Our supermarket shelves we’re emptied–––it was crazy. Even Costco had to ration out their toilet paper. The fact is, Americans are crazy for toilet paper; we’re 4% of the world population, but we use 20% of the world’s toilet paper. We’re cutting down Canadian forests to meet the demand for toilet paper. Therefore, installing bidets is good for business and the environment.

We experienced three plumbing issues within a short period of time. We're very grateful for the professional, experienced and courteous service we received from Big B's Plumbing.

Our calls were answered promptly and service was scheduled within a short period of time. Communication was outstanding throughout the process. Big B's technicians are top notch and have state of the art equipment. They explained the problems and options in terms we understood, with resolution in all three cases. We will be return customers any time we have plumbing needs, and highly recommend them to anyone who does.
